Algebra Tutoring for Washington DC Students

SlopeFactor is a lifelong math tutor — not test prep. When the DC launch opens in SY 2026-27, students will build lasting algebra skills aligned to the DC CAPE and the incoming CAPE Next framework.

DC’s math assessments: CAPE and CAPE Next

DC CAPE (current)

The Comprehensive Assessment of Progress in Education (CAPE) is the District’s statewide accountability assessment, administered by OSSE. It covers mathematics and English Language Arts and serves as the primary measure of student proficiency across DC public and public charter schools.

CAPE Next (coming SY 2026-27)

New

CAPE Next is OSSE’s updated assessment framework, phasing in beginning school year 2026-27. It brings revised alignment to DC Academic Standards for mathematics. SlopeFactor will align its DC content to the algebra concepts covered in CAPE Next when the DC launch opens.

DC math proficiency: the picture

DC CAPE mathematics results published by OSSE show a persistent gap between proficiency rates in the District and national benchmarks. While individual school results vary widely, the system-wide data indicates significant room for improvement — particularly in middle and high school algebra, which is the gateway to all future mathematics.

Current proficiency figures are available at osse.dc.gov. SlopeFactor will publish DC-specific outcome goals as part of the SY 2026-27 launch announcement.

The SlopeFactor approach

Adaptive from the start

A short diagnostic identifies exactly where a student's understanding is strong and where it has gaps. Practice is then targeted accordingly — no wasted time on mastered material, no confusion from concepts not yet reached.

Aligned to DC Academic Standards

When SlopeFactor opens in DC, practice will be calibrated to the algebra content covered in both CAPE and CAPE Next — so students work on exactly what matters for their assessments and their future.

A lifelong tutor

SlopeFactor is not a one-time remediation tool. It is a platform that stays with a learner — from middle school through high school, college, and adult learning. Your slope moves with you.

For families and schools

Parents receive progress reports in plain language. Educators can see class-level trends. Students own their learning journey. SlopeFactor is designed to complement DC's diverse school ecosystem, including public charter schools.

Frequently asked questions

Does SlopeFactor work for DC public charter school students?

Yes. SlopeFactor is designed to serve any DC student, whether enrolled in a DCPS school or a public charter school. Both are subject to OSSE assessment requirements and DC Academic Standards, which is what SlopeFactor aligns to.

When will DC families be able to sign up?

The DC launch is planned for SY 2026-27. Families and educators who join the waitlist will be first notified when enrollment opens and will receive any early-access information.

How does CAPE Next affect what SlopeFactor teaches?

CAPE Next brings updated alignment to DC Academic Standards for mathematics. SlopeFactor's team is monitoring the CAPE Next rollout so that when the DC launch opens, practice is aligned to the current framework — not a deprecated one.
